A look into what our club is doing...

Central York High School's JOI Chapter

Service is in full swing—and our students are showing just how powerful a little kindness and teamwork can be.

Students are turning empathy into action through student-driven service initiatives that are making a meaningful impact across their school and community. The National/International Committee recently wrapped up a heartfelt, two-year project: creating tie-knot fleece blankets for children in foster care. With more than 15 students contributing their time and care, the group produced over 15 blankets that will soon be donated to a foster care organization, offering comfort and warmth to children during times of transition.

Showing appreciation close to home, the school committee organized a special effort to recognize bus drivers, cafeteria staff, and custodians. Club members wrote thoughtful notes of gratitude and put together goody bags to be shared, taking time to thank the people who support the school community each and every day.

Students also reached beyond the school by sponsoring a school-wide drive to benefit the Ronald McDonald House. Thanks to the generosity of the school community, over 600 items were collected—including craft kits, matchbox cars, coloring books, games, and playing cards—bringing a bit of comfort and joy to families facing medical challenges.

The York Committee is keeping the momentum going by preparing a second round of birthday boxes for the Fostering Hope organization. Members have been busy decorating each box with creativity and care, getting them ready to be filled with birthday celebration supplies so that every child can feel special on their big day.

Through all of these efforts, students are building leadership skills, strengthening their sense of empathy, and making a real difference along the way.

It’s amazing to see what can happen when students come together with heart—these acts of service are making our community stronger, one thoughtful gesture at a time.
